True Life: I Have an Addiction

... to coffee.

A serious/happy/shameless addiction. Over the past month or so, I have been doing a little Instagram project (like Photo-A-Day) where I take a picture of my coffee and what I'm doing while I enjoy it.

Some pictures include favourite restaurants, making jewelry for my shop, doodles for school, creating things for fashion class, and sending work off to gallery shows.

Just a fun little project I thought I'd share -
do you document anything like this?

I promise I take pictures of things other than my coffee -- if you'd like to follow me on Instagram, hit me up at Mirilittlebird and I'll return the favour. Always fun to see what my friends are up to :)

  4. Ha, I should do this, too. Although, mine would be pretty boring because I tend to drink my coffee while I do my computer-y work in the morning. I'm afraid to drink anything while I make jewelry because sometimes bits of wire take flight...

    1. Definitely! It was such a fun project :) But yea, be careful wit that wire. I generally set up my photo, snap, and then move the coffee to the other side of the table to work ;)

    1. Thanks Betty!

To be completely honest, I take all my instagrams with my phone camera; I've never tried to use an SLR cam. I suppose you could take the SLR photo, upload it, email it to yourself, and open up the email with your phone, and then put it on Instagram? That seems like a lot of work though... And I think you need internet on your phone to upload to it. I've never tried uploading on the computer... I haven't even been able to figure out how to log in to my account on a comp. I can only do it on my phone... ???? Sorry, super unhelpful comment! Lol!

    1. Hey girl,

I used to be a barista... so I'll try and help :)

Are you pulling espresso shots to make the coffee? And are you using espresso beans? The beans can make a difference, so can the grind. Make sure you're buying espresso beans, and that they're ground for an espresso machine (not a regular drip coffee machine) - at Starbucks, it's usually grind setting #3. If you are pulling shots that are almost black and are really burnt and bitter, you might have to adjust the shot to pull longer, so more water/steam comes through the espresso. Espresso by itself is generally bitter, but it shouldn't be gross. It should have a nice warm brown colour :)

Ooooorrrrr does your espresso machine have a coffeemaker built in?

If you want a regular cup of coffee and don't have a built-in machine, I would recommend going to Target or Walmart and grabbing one. You can get one for about $20. Mine is fuscia ;)

My secret recipe for brewing is:

1 scoop per two cups of water, plus 1 additional scoop.
So if I have 4 cups of water, I put in 2 heaping spoonfuls, and then throw one in one top just for good measure. Comes out lovely every time :) Sometimes I sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg on top of the grounds before brewing ;)

I hope that was helpful and not too long to read! Thanks for commenting :)
