Art School Problems

I really like the little rims that watercolour makes in the palette... I don't know why.

#ArtSchoolProblems:
1. Adorable but nosy Kitty tries to jump up and "help" with homework all the time.
2. You actually go full-throttle and take a drink of your rinse water before you realize it's not your coffee (tooooootally did not happen today)
3. Hair is so long, you have to hold it back as you lean over your illustration board to put down washes of colour. If you don't, hair becomes odd brush of sorts.
4. 5 tubes of watercolour costs you almost $40. Lay down colour to find out it's worth it.

I'll have some process shots up of Baba Yaga soon - working on this beast all weekend!

    i also have a nosy kitty :)
Sorry about #2 and I once got my too long hair stuck in my sewing machine ;-)

  2. Sounds like a messy, but enjoyable time.

  3. Kitty just wants some paw prints in watercolor! That would make for some unusual art work painted with your own hair.

  4. I love painting and during college I had very short hair. It's just easier to keep off the canvas.

  5. Totally agree with you on all of it, except the hair brush one.
My cats kept trying to jump on my new drafting table, which is at 35°

Yet they keep on trying despite the slip and falling

  6. I believe a solid training in the traditional skills is quite valuable, even essential, for most young art students, but I think that, once trained, each artist should find his or her own metier...simply replicating paintings in the academic style is a dead end and usually doesn't produce art, but taxidermy.

  7. Thanks for the input, Jeremy... though I'm not sure what about this post pointed to replicating paintings or taxidermy?

But thanks for reading all the same!

  8. I am impressed, I must say. Very seldom do I encounter a blog that's both educational and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your blog is outstanding; the issue is something that not many people are speaking intelligently about.

    Thanks
